Flexible thinking is the ability to think outside the box, see something in a new way, or change our perspective. It’s important for problem solving, communicating effectively, and adjusting to unexpected changes. Flexible thinking, however, can be difficult. It’s easy to get stuck in how we view or perceive something, especially when we have strong beliefs or emotions around something, or if our brain has a hard time shifting focus or accessing multiple pieces of information at once. Flexible thinking is a skill that helps us manage big emotions and self-regulate, yet it’s also a skill that becomes more difficult when we experience big emotions and feel dysregulated.
Luckily, like anything, it’s a skill we can practice! This bingo board of Mind-Bending Missions adds a playful twist to flexible thinking practice, encouraging the whole family to engage with emotional, physical, and thought challenges that help build flexible thinking skills.
Print out this bingo board, and work as a family to complete as many challenges as possible. Set family prizes to motivate you and add to the fun. Or, if your family enjoys a bit of friendly competition, print a board out for everyone and see who can complete the most rows or the entire board first. Have fun!
